One of the most asked questions is how we came up with Brooks’ name. Luckily for us, we didn’t go through months of trying to figure out a name because we knew what his or her name would be when the time came. I am so happy we figured that out way before because knowing us, we probably wouldn’t have had a name until after he was born haha.
Brooks is named after Brooklyn, New York. That is where Matt proposed to be two years ago. If you do not already know, New York has always held a special place in my heart. I call it my “happy place.” I’ve always dreamed about living in the city, being surrounded by all the busy craziness and tall buildings. So years back, I went to New York as a little escape to get my sanity back. I was having a hard time at the moment and it was right before the holiday season at work was going to be madness, so I booked a trip to NYC for a few days. It turned into a mini girls getaway, and then two days in Matt came and surprised me in front of the carousel overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge and proposed! It was the most magical moment in my entire life, I definitely blacked out and can barely remember a word that was exchanged between the both of us. Read the entire proposal story on the blog post!
So one day when we were thinking of names we both liked, there wasn’t a single name we could agree on. Then once we thought about Brooklyn, we both were one hundred percent sure that we wanted our first born to be named after that special place in our hearts. If it was a girl, she would have been named Brooklyn, and if a boy (which it was) he was going to be Brooks. I love that his name brings back memories of one of the most special days in my life and to the city that makes me the happiest. I am literally smiling ear to ear typing this out because it’s pure happiness. One day we hope to bring him to that exact spot and then show him around the city that I would drag his dad to once a year in the freezing cold. Until then, we have that little guy to stare at all day and love on for the rest of our lives.
