On our last trip to New York, we stayed at The Moxy by Marriott at their newest location in East Village. It was our one year anniversary, and we wanted to stay somewhere out of midtown, that was cute and trendy and not too much $$$. I would say it is in the happy medium of prices. We went in November and paid a little under $200/night. It checked all of our boxes off on what we were looking for, also this was just for Matt and I, no baby on this trip sadly. But who really wants to take a newborn to NYC in the Winter? The idea just wasn’t for us, and truly, we needed a little quick getaway and celebrating our anniversary just the two of us was all we wanted. This year has been nothing but a fast crazy change.
Anyway, back to the Moxy! So this hotel is a dream. It was very artsy. I wish I could use another word for it because I hate that word, but artsy really suits the style. It’s dark and dimmed, nothing bright and airy. There is really fun art on the walls, the elevator was a mirror with a fun design all around (I’m sure you saw my 100’s of selfies), the bar and lobby was HUGE, with seating everywhere, outside patio, games, etc. We didn’t even realize until the day we left, so that was a bummer. But definitely next stay we will use that space to end a night. The hotel had a connecting restaurant that looked amazing. We didn’t book a reservation, and given we only had two nights, we explored the city instead. But I definitely want to make it back there one day. They served breakfast and dinner, it’s called, ‘The Cathedral.’ I saw people going in and out at night and they were dressed up in going out outfits! The vibe was hip and cute but not fancy shmancy.
Now onto the rooms! We stayed in a Queen suite, and it was perfect. Almost all New York hotels are tiny, and we know that, but this room wasn’t insanely small at all! It was definitely meant for two no more, but I loved the layout. They have their beds pushed against windows on one end, so you can only access it from one side, which we were totally fine with. The beds gave you a view that really made you feel like you lived in the city. It was a completely open window, so yes, you can see all the neighbors around haha but with an option to close of course. The bathroom situation was so cool. The shower and toilet were together in a room, and the sink was outside of it in the actual hotel room. The used their walls for closet space, it was an exposed closet. I’ve never stayed in a hotel that was designed with exposed closets, and you know, I’m totally all about it! I was able to lay my outfits out, and see everything I had. Very practical and cute!
The location was seriously PRIME. On that same street, if you walk across the street, you can eat at an Australian restaurant called Ruby’s. It was DELISH and sooo cute. A little farther down was Insomnia Cookies, and Saltwater Coffee, another Aussy shop! You are close enough to walk down to Soho/Nolita/Greenwich Village. From Midtown and Central Park, take a taxi or uber. It’s definitely a walk. You can totally do it, but it kills a lot of time if you don’t have much of it. There was truly so much to eat and drink around us, your options were endless.
This hotel is by far my newest favorite place to stay in the city. We have never stayed in East Village before and it might be our new spot! We definitely plan to stay here again. We didn’t get to explore it as much as we should have, so we will be back! I highly recommend this hotel to everyone. If you are a Marriott rewards member or part of their Bonvoy program, you get special perks! We didn’t have to checkout until 4pm, which is so rare. Overall, this place is a 10/10 and we can’t wait to come back!
